South Woodham Ferrers Day Centre is now open again after the recent lockdown. The centre is open on Fridays from 10am to 3pm and a two-course meal is included. Clients take part in a range of activities such as seated exercise, group games, Bingo, reminiscence talks and word quizzes.  All activities are based around keeping people active and simulating their minds as well as social interaction and giving Carers a much needed break.

We are also pleased to announce our brand new Activity Groups in Witham are due to open early next year. Based on what Carers have told us is needed, this provision will be for people with mild to moderate dementia who can attend alone. Two groups will be held during the day - the morning will have a ‘Keeping Active’ Group session and the afternoon will have an ‘Active Minds’ Group session. Clients can choose to attend one or both groups. The focus of the Activity Groups will be based around physical activities and cognitive stimulation, both of which are proven to be beneficial for people with dementia and memory problems.

We welcome volunteers from the community to come and help with the Activity Groups.

If you would like to know more about either of these provisions, please call Lisa Whiteley on 0300 770 8090 or email lisa.whiteley@affc.org.uk.
