Volunteer: Epping ‘Walk and Talk’ Group

Action for Family Carers runs a popular Peer Support Group in Epping. The group takes the form of a “Walk and Talk Group” where carers are given the option of taking part in a walk before having refreshments or just remaining in the café for the whole session. The group is currently led by a member of staff and offers carers the opportunity to socialise with each other, get some exercise and fresh air, share experiences and gain practical and professional help, guidance and support. The group runs on the first Thursday of each month from 1.15 to 3.15pm.

Locations: Epping – Meet at the Jack Silley Pavilion

What the role involves:

  • Greeting people as they arrive
  • Taking part in a short walk
  • Acting as a listening ear for our carers
  • Helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere
  • Keeping a register of those attending

You will need to be:

  • Warm and friendly
  • Happy to chat and share experiences
  • Understanding and sympathetic
  • Happy to take part in or lead a short, local walk
  • Available once a month on a regular basis
