We are a thriving charity providing information and support to Carers who have unpaid, caring responsibilities for others.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and passionate Young Carers team, helping us make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged or vulnerable young people, within our local community.

Your role will be to work alongside the Young Carers Club Lead, to support delivery of a youth club, activities and day trips. Working with Young Carers aged 8-18. This enables Young Carers to receive a respite break from their caring role and a chance to make new friends.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of working with Young Carers in an active youth work setting, assisting with maintaining health and wellbeing whilst improving individual social skills and self-esteem.

Location

Stanway Youth Centre. Winstree Road, Colchester CO3 0QA

Salary

£12.10 per hour (4 hours per week in term time only)

Club hours

Weekly on a Wednesday 4.30pm -7.30pm

Job Description

Operational Management, Service Delivery & Quality:

  • To attend club night.
  • To assist with developing and facilitating the groups.
  • To observe all guidelines relating to child protection, risk assessments and other policies and procedure.
  • To be aware of all policies, procedures and risk assessments.
  • Contribute to delivering continuous improvement in service quality and performance.
  • Maintaining required quality standards of service delivery.

Health, Safety & Risk Management:

  • Being responsible for health & safety matters within area of responsibility
  • To comply with risk assessment for Covid19
  • Ensuring risk assessments and reviews are undertaken and that identified risks are managed and mitigated where possible
  • Ensuring full compliance with health & Safety requirements
  • Following the formal reporting process for serious incidents and accidents
Person Specification

Experience:

Essential

  • Desire and motivation to work within a youth work environment

Desirable

  • Experience of managing volunteers
  • Experience of working within a within a youth work environment
  • Experience of working with vulnerable/disadvantaged young people

    Knowledge & Understanding:

    Essential

    • Knowledge of the health and social care sector
    • Knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures

    Desirable

    • Understanding of the issues facing young carers
    • Understanding of public sector funding

    Skills & Qualifications:

    Essential

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • A good standard of education

    Desirable

    • NVQ level 2 in youth work or equivalent

    Personal Qualities & Attributes:

    Essential

    • Ability to empathise with and offer emotional support to young carers
    • Excellent organisation skills

    Desirable

    • Ability to work flexibly
