Getting a Break
If you’re a carer, taking a break is essential. Respite, whether it’s time away from your caring duties or a holiday with the person you care for, can provide a change of scenery that helps you feel better equipped to manage your caring role.
When you’re caring for someone, it can be easy to keep putting their own needs before your own. However, the benefits of taking a break should never be underestimated – whether this might be a dose of meditation, seeing friends or a trip away.
Whatever you do, finding some ‘me’ time to relax and unwind is so important for both you and those you care for.
At Action for Family Carers we can offer:
Carer Support Groups
In West and Northeast Essex, we run monthly Support Groups – a regular, safe and understanding space where you can connect with other carers, share experiences and find support with others who understand. Joining a Carer Support Group is easy. Simply register with us and we’ll connect you with your local group or if you’re already registered you can search for your nearest Carer Support Group here.
Time4You Grants
Our small wellbeing grants are designed to enable you take a well-deserved break from the pressures of caring and have a positive impact on your wellbeing. They are available to adult carers (18+) living in West Essex (Epping, Harlow and Uttlesford districts) and Northeast Essex (Colchester & Tendring districts).
These grants can be used to do something of your own choosing, aligned to your interests, hobbies and aspirations.
Maldon Day Centre
We provide Day Care for older people in Maldon which also provides a few hours break for family Carers.
West Essex Activity Groups:
We run ‘Keeping Active’ and ‘Active Minds’ groups for people with mild/moderate dementia or memory loss in Thaxted, Harlow and Epping, which also provides a few hours break for family Carers.

There are more options and things to help and our friends at Mobilise have created a useful ‘Carers’ guide to respite’
