We have an exciting management opportunity for a Carer Support Team Lead to join our team, supporting unpaid adult carers. This is a rewarding and varied role leading a team providing information, coaching and peer support for local carers, helping them navigate support systems, and to maintain their own health and wellbeing. You will mainly work in the community as well as from our offices or at home.

You will have experience working with Carers, vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals, or working within health, social care, community or voluntary services. You will ideally have experience managing people to deliver high-quality services. Most importantly, you will be passionate about making a difference to the lives of local unpaid adult carers.

Action for Family Carers is a thriving charity which for over 35 years has been providing support for Adult Carers and Young Carers – people with unpaid caring responsibilities for others. We are a Carers Trust Network Partner and hold the Excellence for Carers quality mark. We provide support including information, coaching, counselling, peer support, respite care, and Young Carer clubs across Essex, working within schools, GP practices and a variety of community settings.

Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

Leading and managing an area team to deliver a high-quality adult carer support service, ensuring the team meets commissioned outcomes, performance and quality standards.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Delivery
· Leading the team to deliver the commissioned offer to achieve positive outcomes for carers in Essex.
· Managing the service to ensure achievement of key performance indicators and deliver continuous improvement.
· Demonstrating the impact of the service through monitoring and evaluation.
· Monitoring and maintaining quality standards and compliance with procedures across the team.
· Managing a small caseload including complex cases working directly with carers.
· Providing strategic oversight of the service, ensuring resources and delivery are appropriately directed towards key priority areas and groups. 

Team Leadership
· Line-managing the team of Carer Support Workers including recruitment, induction, one-to-ones, appraisals, training and performance management.
· Providing strong, supportive and visible leadership to the team.
· Motivating and empowering the team to deliver a consistently high-quality service, ensuring accurate record-keeping and clear demonstration of impact.  

Stakeholder Engagement 
· Developing strong relationships with key stakeholders including health and social care professionals, community organisations and other partners.
Positively representing and promoting the service and the charity at relevant meetings, networks and partnership forums to ensure carers situations and needs are recognised and understood.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Adhere to the policies, procedures and processes of the charity.
· Demonstrate a commitment to the charity’s safeguarding policies and procedures and promotion of the welfare of young and adult carers.

· Commit to the charity’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
· Respect and maintain confidentiality
· Carry out duties in line with the principles of the UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
· Contribute to organisational quality assurance activity.
· Participate fully with the charity’s appraisal/performance management process taking personal responsibility for the identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
· Undertake mandatory training and development and as commensurate with the job role.

Person Specification

Experience:
Essential
· Working with Carers, vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals, older people, people with disabilities and/or working within health, social care, community services or voluntary services.
· Managing a team of staff and/or volunteers.
Desirable
· Working in a charity or other not-for-profit organisation.
· Providing information, advice, advocacy, coaching/goal setting or other one-to-one or group support. 

Knowledge & Skills:
Essential
· Confident and competent in use of IT including Word, Excel, CRMs (databases).
· Confident and engaging communicator both orally and in writing.
· Understanding of needs, rights and legislation affecting carers and knowledge of welfare benefits.

Qualifications:
Essential
· GCSE Maths and English grade A-C.
Desirable
· Degree level qualification.

Essential
· Proactive, able to work independently.
· Strong team player with a collaborative approach to working.
· High level of professional credibility, integrity and emotional resilience.
· Highly organised in managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
· Own vehicle available for use at work with appropriate insurance cover.
