Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in October, bringing together members, trustees, supporters and staff to celebrate our work supporting unpaid carers across Essex. We were honoured to welcome guests including the Lord-Lieutenant of Essex.
While the AGM is an important part of running a charity, it’s also an opportunity to shine a light on our work and, most importantly, make sure the voices of the carers we support are heard.
Young carers brought a touch of festive joy to the afternoon with their fantastic artwork for our Young Carer Christmas Card Campaign. Their creative designs sparked conversations about the young people we support through our clubs and in schools across Essex.
We also celebrated three of our long-standing volunteers, who received generous vouchers donated by local Essex business Wilkin & Sons who produce Tiptree Jams, in recognition of their contribution.
One of the afternoon’s highlights was hearing from Tracey, an adult carer from West Essex who has received support from Action for Family Carers. Tracey spoke movingly about caring for both her husband and her father, and the impact this had on her life.
She shared how joining a local carer support group became a lifeline when she moved to a new area to care for her father. Not knowing anyone, she found a welcoming community where she could talk to people who understood her experiences.
Tracey’s story was a powerful reminder that no carer should have to face their caring role alone. At Action for Family Carers, we’re proud to support unpaid carers across Essex, helping them feel heard, connected and supported.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to make our work possible.
