Having worked in health care for my whole professional life I have always recognised the importance of the role of carer in supporting and enabling people to live independently. During my career I have been able to focus on governance, patient safety and quality of care provision and was fortunate to serve as Non-Executive Director at Southend Foundation Trust for four years.
I had personal experience of the demands of the carer role when I became carer for my father during a cancer journey and again when my mother was diagnosed with aggressive vascular dementia following the death of my father. The support provided to me by local organisations during these experiences was invaluable.
I am now in a position to be able to volunteer for Action for Family Carers and I am keen to share my skills and experience with the CEO and board and see the charity continue to grow and prosper.
