We’re looking for a dynamic individual to identify, secure, and manage funding opportunities. You will work closely with our Head of Business Development & Partnerships to implement our income generation strategy. Your role will involve researching potential income generation opportunities, preparing grant proposals, managing funding applications, and maintaining donor relationships. You’ll also drive forward our CRM system, leveraging data to demonstrate our impact, secure funding and support strategic decision-making.

Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, securing, and managing funding opportunities to support the growth and sustainability of Action for Family Carers. You will work closely with our Head of Business Development & Partnerships to implement our income generation strategy. This includes researching potential funders, preparing compelling grant proposals, managing funding applications, and maintaining relationships with donors and partners.

Additionally, you will leverage data to demonstrate our impact, secure funding, and support strategic decision-making. You will manage our CRM system and other data systems to collect, organize, and report accurate data, providing timely insights. You will interpret complex data sets, creating insightful reports and visualizations, and collaborate closely with various teams to gather data and stories that align with funder priorities.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Income generation

1. Work with the Head of Business Development & Partnerships to implement the Income Generation Strategy.

2. Research and identify potential funding sources, including grants, donations, partnership and sponsorship opportunities.

3. Actively seek out and pursue new funding opportunities.

4. Research/facilitate other forms of income generation (e.g. individual donors, fundraising, trading activities, contracts).

5. Develop and write high-quality grant proposals, applications, and reports to secure funding from diverse sources.

6. Coordinate and manage the submission of funding applications and reports, ensuring all deadlines are met.

7. Monitor and report on the status of funding applications and manage the funding pipeline.

8. Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, and develop appropriate and customised cultivation plans, stewardship plans and strategies for each donor. 

9. Develop strong relationships with key representatives from funding partners, involving other staff when necessary.

10. Work with colleagues to write and submit reports to trusts and other donors to meet their monitoring and evaluation requirements.

 

Data & Impact Management

11. Lead on the management and development of our CRM system and other data collection systems and processes to ensure we collect the data required to meet funder requirements.

12. Analyse data using statistical techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

13. Identify and compare national and regional datasets against AfFC data to benchmark performance and identify areas for improvement or development.

14. Develop and deliver training and support for staff to ensure they can effectively use the CRM and other data collection tools.

15. Present data findings to stakeholders through clear and compelling reports and presentations.

16. Develop and implement data management procedures and policies.

17. Monitor data quality and perform regular audits to identify and resolve discrepancies.

18. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and company policies.

19. Manage the Data Administrator to provide ongoing support for users of the system, troubleshoot data-related issues and provide timely resolutions.

 

Other

20. Provide assistance and support to the Head of Business Development & Partnerships.

21. Ensure full compliance with organisational Policies and Procedures including but not limited to, Financial Procedures, Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, Equal opportunities, Health & Safety and Data Protection.

22. Take responsibility for self-development, identifying learning opportunities, and attending relevant training.

23. Carry out the above and any other duties commensurate with the post, agreed with the CEO and Board of Trustees, in a manner which actively supports and promotes organisational aims.

Person Specification

The post holder should be able to demonstrate that they have skills and experience in the following areas:

Knowledge & Experience

· Proven experience in securing funding through grants, donations, and/or sponsorships.

· Strong understanding of the funding landscape and trends in the charity sector.

· Experience in writing successful grant applications and funding proposals.

· Familiarity with data collection and analysis to support funding applications and reports.

· Good IT skills and experience using a range of applications, including MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint with demonstrable, advanced level Microsoft Excel skills

· Proficiency in using databases and CRM systems.

 

Skills & Abilities

· Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.

· Ability to transform complex information and data into clear and impactful summaries, reports and presentations.

· Strong research skills to identify funding opportunities.

· Strong numeracy and data manipulation alongside analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple funding applications simultaneously.

· Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with funders and stakeholders.
