Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight unpaid carers’ challenges, and recognise their contribution to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
This year the theme is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ highlighting the invaluable contributions of carers across the UK and ensuring their voices are heard loud and clear.
At Action for Family Carers we believe, with the right support, ALL Carers can have the same opportunities in life as others, whether in education, training and employment, or socially.
For Carers Week this year, we’re encouraging professionals, friends, family, and colleagues to think about the unpaid Carers they encounter who may not realise they are carers.
We have events running through June and we’re encouraging any carers or professionals registered with us to come along but also think about inviting someone you know who may be looking after a friend or family member who couldn’t cope without them.
Our Carer Support Groups are asking our attendee’s to ‘Bring a cake, bring a carer’ and extend an invite to come along to the group to enjoy a chat, a cuppa, cake, guest speakers and a bit of light arts and crafts. Our groups are a space we bring together those caring for someone to offer emotional support and practical advice.
Our Maldon Day Centre Manager, Lisa Whitely has organised a special Carer information morning on Thursday 13 June, 10:30-12:30 in the Scout Hut, Maldon. We’re asking local people ‘Do you look after someone who couldn’t manage without your help?’
Many fantastic organisations are joining us on the day to offer information and advice.
Keep an eye out for more updates as we get closer to the main event and if you aren’t already signed up join our newsletter to be the first to hear about any new events, useful information and news.
You can find all our June events here.
