We work with selected secondary schools in Essex. If we’re not currently working with your school and you’re interested in partnering with us, please email youngcarers@affc.org.uk.
A Young Carer is a child or young person under 18 who takes on practical or emotional caring responsibilities for a family member with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or substance misuse issue. This may include household tasks, cooking, managing appointments, medication management, personal care (e.g. washing, dressing), or providing significant emotional support. Their responsibilities go beyond what is typically expected for their age and impact their wellbeing, education, or social life. Being a sibling of someone with additional needs does not necessarily make a young person a Young Carer unless they have specific caring responsibilities that have an impact on their life.
The Action for Family Carers Young Carers Team offers support solely for Young Carers, focusing on issues connected to their caring responsibilities. Please ensure your referral meets these criteria and include as much detail as possible to help us prioritise and tailor our support effectively
