Living with Dementia, or supporting for someone who is? Come along to the new Dementia-friendly pub sessions operating in Uttlesford from April for a friendly afternoon of good company, games and quizzes.
*Please note these sessions are not run by Action for Family Carers. We are information sharing for our community.
Q: Does it cost anything to attend?
A: There is no entry or participation fee. If you can, then we encourage you to purchase a drink or snack from the Ash Pub who host us for free.
Q: Can a person living with Dementia attend alone?
A: Yes, if the individual concerned has capacity to remain safe and comfortable during the session – including managing decisions about safeguarding their money and belongings, choices about what to eat and drink, toileting safely and about how and when they will leave the venue. Blossom Home Care staff are in attendance to ensure the safe and enjoyable running of the session but cannot be responsible for the safety of individual participants. Family members, friends, professional and voluntary carers are all most welcome to attend with participants.
Q: What will a session look like?
A: There will be a range of traditional pub activities on offer such as quizzes and darts as well as the opportunity to chat and get involved in games and puzzles. Blossom Home Care staff will be on hand to support attendees to get involved and feel comfortable.
Q: Are alcoholic drinks served at this event?
A: Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase at the bar if desired and it is for the judgement of attendees and/or their carers to decide if they wish to buy them. A wide range of non-alcoholic drinks are available as an alternative if preferred.
Q: Is the venue accessible?
A: There is a dedicated pub car park, entry into the pub from the car park is wheelchair accessible. Access to the loo is step-free but there is no dedicated disabled loo.
