Young Carers Action Day took place on the 12th March and this year, young carers are saying loud and clear: give us a break!
Young carers give so much of their own time and energy to care for family members who need support. Without proper breaks, it can be overwhelming.
Our Young Carer Service which includes our Young Carer Clubs embodies just this… a regular, safe, fun environment for Young Carers to spend time, make friends and have experiences that they may not have due to caring responsibilities or other strains that come with circumstances beyond their control.
This year to mark the day our Young Carer Team ran events, visited schools and organised little extras to remind everyone how important it is for them to take a break.
Here are some highlights…
Colchester Club held a party…

.
“I like playing games and going outside, this gives me a good break” Sarah, YC Club attendee
School visits happened across the county…

“I like making bracelets at the club and I have a new friend there. I like [my worker] coming to see me in school” Young Carer Support feedback
Our Northeast clubs hosted a BIG SLEEPOVER…

“I’m so proud of myself for staying. It was fun” Lucas, age 14
We are fundraising for our Young Carer Service this year – we need to raise £70,000 to keep our Young Carer Clubs running. If you’d like to support our work you can make a donation here, speak to us about a corporate partnership or sponsor a trip or activity – we are grateful for any and all support 🩷
