Supporting Young Carers Across Essex

Young Carer Action Day shines a light on the thousands of children and young people across the UK who help care for a family member. These young carers often balance school, friendships and their own wellbeing alongside caring for someone who may be ill, disabled or experiencing mental health challenges.

At Action for Family Carers, we support young carers across Essex through in-school support, Young Carer Clubs and respite activities, helping them take a break from caring, build friendships and improve their wellbeing.

How We Support Young Carers

Our services give Young Carers the time, understanding and support they need to thrive.

In-School Support
– One-to-one emotional support
– Help managing school and caring responsibilities
– A safe space to talk

Young Carer Clubs
– Time to relax and build confidence
– Fun, supportive group activities
– Opportunities to meet other young carers

Making Memories Trips
– Time to simply enjoy being young
– Special days out away from caring responsibilities
– Opportunities to try new experiences

The Impact of Our Support

Feedback from our 2024–2025 Young Carers Survey shows the difference this support makes:

86% feel happier
61% feel less stressed or anxious
80% make new friends
65% feel less lonely
73% get a break from caring

Young Carers Visiting Westminster

To mark Young Carer Action Day, a group of young carers supported by Action for Family Carers will visit the Palace of Westminster to meet Chris Vince MP. The visit will give young carers the chance to share their experiences and help raise awareness of the support they need.

Follow our social media channels for updates from the day.
